Four Lady Crusaders reached double figures as the Belmont Abbey
women's basketball team earned a 70-60 win over the visiting
Limestone Lady Saints. Belmont Abbey, winners of three of its last
four, improves to 9-5 overall and 7-2 in Conference Carolinas,
while Limestone slips to 7-8 overall and 5-5 in Conference
Carolinas.
The Abbey, which never trailed after the opening minute, shot
38.5 percent (20-52) from the floor as sophomore forward Shayla
Jackson led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds. She also had
three assists and two steals. Junior guard Courtney Naquin added 15
points on five of 11 shooting from the field, while guard Ashley
Giddens added 14 points on five of ten shooting from the field,
including a four for seven effort from beyond the arc. She added
three assists and a pair of steals. Freshman Paula Regalado came
off the bench to score 11 points in 13 minutes, converting three of
her six field goal attempts and five of six free throw attempts.
She added six rebounds as the Lady Crusaders won the battle of the
boards 39-33.
Limestone shot 32.1 percent (17-53) as Bianca Gonazelez led all
scorers with 22 points on six of 17 shooting from the field, while
dishing out three assists and collecting a pair of steals. Tierney
Burdett added 17 points and six rebounds. Lauren Pace led all
players with six assists, half of the Lady Saints team total.
Belmont Abbey is back in action Saturday night at 5:30 when it
heads to Charlotte to face Queens. That game will take place at the
Grady Cole Center.
