The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team shot 47.2 percent
(25-53) from the field as the Crusaders earned a 62-51 win over
visiting Converse College this afternoon at the Wheeler Center. The
Abbey improves to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in Conference Carolinas,
while Converse slips to 0-12 overall and 0-7 in Conference
Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey, which led for most of the contest, was led by
sophomore forward Shayla Jackson's 17 points on 8-11 shooting from
the field. She also had five rebounds and a blocked shot in 36
minutes. Junior guard Ashley Giddens added 12 points on 4-8
shooting, while collecting four steals and handing out two assists.
Asha Hardaway led the Abbey with seven rebounds and four steals,
while Kelsey Daniel and Amanda McDonald both finished with six.
Converse shot 29.5 percent (18-61) from the floor and 25.8
percent (8-31) from three-point range as Chelsea McDougle led
Valkyries with 11 points on 4-5 shooting, while Brandy Williams
tallied ten points and five rebounds. Ashley Arff led all players
with nine rebounds.
