9/6/2008 12:00:00 AM

Box score

The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team received goals from defenders Danielle Kubinski and Amanda Maddock as the Crusaders increased their unbeaten streak to 16 matches with a 2-0 shutout of visiting Chowan this afternoon. The Abbey improves to 2-0-2, while the Hawks fall to 2-2.

Belmont Abbey dominated the entire match, outshooting Chowan 18-0 and holding a 14-1 edge in corner kicks as it received the only goal it would need in the 24th minute. Off of a corner kick by Rebecca Mateo, Kubinski fired a shot from the right side of the six-yard box that was deflected by a Chowan defender right back to her, and she headed home the winner for a 1-0 lead.

The score remained 1-0 until the 85th minute when freshman Connie Axiotis fed a pass to Maddock at the right side of the box. Maddock dribbled a couple of yards and then sailed a high arcing shot that hit the left post and caromed into the net for her first goal of the season and it widened the Crusader lead to 2-0, which was the final.

The Abbey is back in action next Saturday at 2:00 p.m. when it goes on the road to face Limestone.
