Volleyball Rallies From 0-2 Deficit To Defeat Converse In A 3-2 Thriller

Trailing two games to none, the Belmont Abbey volleyball team won three-straight sets as it rallied from an 0-2 hole and stun Converse College 3-2 this evening at the Wheeler Center. Scores were 23-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23 and 15-13. The Abbey improves to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas, while Converse remains winless at 0-5 overall and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas.

The Abbey offense was led by sophomore Leanne Cassandra, who finished with 16 kills, while Emily Frohnapfel added 12 and Bria James added 10. James posted a double double with 16 digs as well as two service aces. Rebekah Weber handed out 29 assists to go along with 11 digs, while Molly Gwaltney totaled 14 assists. Libero Carrie Markham led the way with 19 digs.

Converse was led by Alaina Smith's 12 kills, while Caitlyn Hemm added 11. Caitlyn Smith finished with 36 assists and 13 digs. Libero Marissa Coleman led Converse with 19 digs.

The Abbey is back in action Thursday night at 7:00 when it hosts Newberry.
