Women's Soccer Runs Unbeaten Streak To 17 With 1-0 Win At Limestone

Belmont Abbey freshman midfielder Rebecca Mateo scored the only goal of the match in the 40th minute as the Belmont Abbey women's soccer team upped its unbeaten streak to 17 with a 1-0 win at Limestone this afternoon. The Crusaders improve to 3-0-2 overall and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas play as the Lady Saints slip to 1-4 overall (0-1 league).

The Abbey increases its shutout streak against conference opponents to 12. The last goal the Abbey allowed in Conference play came on September 22, 2007 when it defeated Limestone 4-1.

Mateo scored the game's lone goal in the 40th minute. Her high shot bounced off the top of the crossbar, down, and across the goal line.

Lady Saints goalkeeper Diane Boyce had five saves, while the Abbey's Anna Wells had one. Belmont Abbey outshot Limestone 11-2, and had six corner kicks to the Saints' three.

The Crusaders host Lenoir-Rhyne on September 15 at 5:00.
