The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team opened the 2008 season with a 4-2 win at Brevard this afternoon in the season opener for both teams.

Belmont Abbey scored first at the 28:12 mark after Max Pembleton of the Crusaders scored on a rebound shot off of goalkeeper Jerry Hatsady.

The Tornados quickly responded with a goal of their own before the game reached the 30 minute mark as Miika Kastarinen scored off a beautiful crossing pass by Henri Erti. The score would remain tied 1-1 at the half.

Seven minutes into the second half Pembleton added a second goal for the Crusaders, scoring off a header after a deflection from several players.

Not to be denied, Kastarinen tied the game up again at the 69:39 mark, this time unassisted from the left wing.

However, Belmont Abbey would not be denied as Logan Rhea put the Crusaders up for good with a goal off a low shot near the right post with the assist from Pembleton. With four minutes left in the game, Pembleton added an insurance goal, scoring off a crossing pass from teammate Adam Gray.
