The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team received 21 points from
junior guard Jonathan Jackson, but Mount Olive shot 61.7 percent
(37-60) from the floor as the Trojans earned a 93-73 win over the
Crusaders this evening at the Wheeler Center. Mount Olive, ranked
first in the region, improves to 21-4 overall and 16-2 in
Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey dips to 15-11 overall and
13-6 in Conference Carolinas.
The Abbey shot 35.1 percent (20-57) from the field as Jackson
sank six of 20 field goal attempts and six of his seven free throw
attempts as he led the Abbey with 21 points. Senior forward Ric
Marczenko added 17 points on 5-9 shooting from the field, and sank
seven of his nine free throw attempts. Chad Patus added 16 points
on 4-8 shooting from the field. He added eight free throws in nine
attempts and led the Crusaders with six rebounds.
Mount Olive was led by Brandon Streeter, who logged a double
double with 28 points and ten rebounds. He converted 10 of 13 field
goal attempts and eight of 11 free throw attempts. Kendrick Easley
added 20 points on 8-13 shooting, including four three-pointers in
seven attempts.
The Abbey is back in action Tuesday night at 7:30 when it goes
on the road to close out the regular season at Pfeiffer.
