Men's Basketball Extends Wininng Streak To Four With 73-61 Win Over Anderson

Belmont Abbey junior guard Jonathan Jackson led four Crusaders in double figures with a game-high 23 points as the Abbey men's basketball team extended their winning streak to four with a 73-61 win over Anderson this evening at the Wheeler Center. The Crusaders improve to 15-9 overall and 13-4 in Conference Carolinas, while the Trojans fall to 10-13 overall and 8-8 in Conference Carolinas.

The Crusaders never trailed after the opening two minutes of the game and led by as many as 20 points as Jackson led all scorers with 23 points on 5-14 shooting from the field. He also sank 11 of 14 free throw attempts to go along with a pair of steals in 39 minutes. Junior guard Deonte Murphy added 15 points on 4-6 shooting and was a perfect 4-4 from three-point range. He finished with five assists and three rebounds.

Richard Barbee and Riz Marczenko both added 13 points, with Marczenko posting a double double with a game-high 12 rebounds. Chad Patus added eight points and 11 rebounds as the Crusaders won the rebounding battle 44-32. They finsihed the night shooting 40.8 percent (20-49) from the floor.

Anderson shot 36.5 percent (23-63) from the floor as Brandon Young led the way wiht 16 points, while Jarret Johnson added 12 and Kevis Cornwell totaled 11. Stephen Cobb added eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.

The Abbey is back in a action Saturday night at 7:30 when it goes on the road to face Barton.
