Women's Basketball Outlasts Livingstone In Overtime, 56-49

The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team outscored Livingstone 10-3 in overtime after the two teams were deadlocked at 46 at the end of regulation as the Lady Crusaders extended their winning streak to three with a 56-49 win over the visiting Lady Blue Bears this afternoon at the Wheeler Center. The Abbey improves to 4-1, while Livingstone slips to 2-7.

In the extra period, sophomore forward Shayla Jackson scored the first three baskets of the stanza as the Abbey pulled away with a lead it would never lose. Amanda McDonald added a layup and Courtney Naquin sank two free throws with 20 seconds left to provide the winning points.

Belmont Abbey shot 33.3 percent (23-69) from the floor as Naquin led the way with 14 points. She also had five rebounds and a pair of steals. Jackson finished with ten points, six in overtime, along with seven boards, two steals and three assists. Emma Camp posted nine points and nine rebounds, while Asha Hardaway added eight points and a team-high ten rebounds.

Livingstone, which shot 37.6 percent (18-49), was led by Montiya Harrison and Cassaundra Rhodes, who both finished with 11 points. Rhodes sank five of her eight field goal attempts. Rashida Elbourne added ten points and seven boards. Chelsea Johnson led all players with 12 rebounds.
