Volleyball Falls At Barton, 3-1

The Belmont Abbey volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at Barton this evening in the penultimate regular season match of the year. Set scores were 19-25, 15-25, 25-18 and 19-25. Barton improves to 9-20 overall and 7-12 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey slips to 9-18 overall and 8-11 in Conference Carolinas.

Belmont Abbey was led offensively by Leanne Cassandra, who finished with eight kills, while Stefanie Holler added seven. Bria James tallied four, and Sydney Steffen and Jessica Bennett both finished with a pair. Molly Gwaltney handed out 17 assists, while Rebekah Weber registered four. Carrie Markham, Megan Watts, James, Gwaltney and Weber all had one service ace.

Defensively, Holler led the way with three blocks, while Steffen and Cassandra both added a pair. Weber and James each had one. Markham posted seven digs to lead the team, while James and Gwaltney had five and two, respectively.

The Abbey wraps up the regular season tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. when it takes on Mount Olive. That match will be played at Barton.
