Nine Belmont Abbey women's soccer players -all but two
starters-earned all-conference honors, as Kristin Voirin, Celene
Molera, Lauren Faerber and Anna Wells were named to the first team,
while Amanda Maddock, Danielle Kubinski, and Nicole Voets were
named to the second team, and Connie Axiotis and Rebbeca Mateo were
named to the third team. In addition, Molera was named the
Conference Player of the Year, while Axiotis was named the
Conference Freshman of the Year.
Molera is the Abbey's first Player of the Year since Natalie
Monfils took the honor in 2001. Molera, who was also on the
first-team, led the league with 14 goals and three assists. She
scored a career-high three goals in the win at Converse.
Axiotis is the Abbey's first Freshman of the Year since Jill
Barnes in 2004. Axiotis, who was also named to the third-team, was
among league and freshman leaders with eight goals and five
assists.
Voirin earned first-team honors for the first time in her career
after she was a second-team selection this year. Voirin has helped
lead a defense that allowed just one goal in Conference play, while
scoring two goals and assisting on another.
Faerber, a senior captain, earned the first postseason honor of
her career with a first-team nod after leading the league with
eight assists. She also scored a goal, while helping lead a defense
that allowed just one goal in 11 Conference matches.
Wells earned first-team honors for the second-straight year and
is now a three-time all-conference selection after winning a spot
on the honorable mention team in 2006. Wells leads the league in
fewest goals allowed, goals against average, shutouts and shutouts
per game. She has allowed just one goal in Conference play and is
currently riding an eight-match unbeaten streak heading into
Saturday's final.
Maddock was named to the second team one year after earning
first-team honors. She is part of a defense that has allowed one
goal in Conference play, while scoring three goals and assisting on
four others from her right back position.
Kubinski becomes a four-time all-conference pick with her
second-team selection. A first-team honoree last year, Kubinski was
also the MVP of the 2005 Conference Tournament as a freshman. This
season, she has led the defense from her center back position,
where she marks the opposition's top offensive threat. She has
scored a pair of goals.
Voets and Mateo were rewarded for their solid freshman seasons
with spots on the second and third teams, respectively. Voets, the
Abbey's center midfielder, scored five goals, including the golden
goal in the win over Mount Olive, while assisting on three others.
Mateo is among league and freshman leaders with five goals, four of
those going for game winners, while assisting on six others.
