The seventh-seeded Belmont Abbey volleyball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2008 Conference Carolinas Tournament with a 3-1 win over tenth-seeded Converse College this evening. Set scores were 25-12, 25-12, 23-25 and 25-22. The Abbey improves to 10-19, while Converse ends its season with a 2-32 mark.

The Abbey had a balanced offense as Bria James, Emily Frohnapfel and Leanne Cassandra all posted 11 kills. Stefanie Holler added seven and Jessica Bennett posted six. Molly Gwaltney handed out 25 assists and Rebekah Weber finished with 23. Gwaltney led the way with three service aces.

Defensively, James posted a team-high 16 digs to record a double double, while Carrie Markham posted 15. Cassandra finished with six total blocks, registering four block assists and two block solos.

The Crusaders advance to the semifinal round where it will go on the road to face second-seeded Anderson University Wednesday night at 6:30.
