The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team received second-half goals
from Celene Molera and Connie Axioits as the 19th-ranked Crusaders
extended their unbeaten streak to 22, their shutout streak to four
and its shutout streak against Conference Carolinas opponents to 15
with a 2-0 Homecoming win over Anderson University this afternoon.
The Abbey improves to 8-0-2 overall and 4-0-0 in Conference
Carolinas, while the Lady Trojans fall to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in
Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey outshot the Trojans 11-1 and held an 8-0 advantage
in corner kicks as Axiotis and Molera teamed up for the first goal
of the match at the 54:52 mark. Axiotis beat her mark down the far
left side of the field and sent a cross to the center of the box,
where Molera buried home a diving header for her ninth goal of the
year.
Axiotis would provide an insurance goal seven minutes later as
she got behind the Anderson defense and chased down a long pass
from Amanda Maddock and buried home the brekaway goal for final
goal of the match.
