The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team recorded a 1-1 tie at
Erskine College this evening in a Conference Carolinas matchup. The
Abbey is now 9-8-2 overall and 4-3-2 in Conference Carolinas, while
the Flying Fleet are now 7-9-1 overall and 3-5-1 in Conference
Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey dominated the match statistically, outshooting
Erskine 12-8 and holding a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks as it drew
first blood just 12:05 into the match. Freshman Matt Powell scored
his first career goal to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead, which it
would hold through the end of stanza until the Flying Fleet gained
the equalizer in the 54th minute as John Michael Leppert found the
back of the net at the 53:17 mark.
From there, the two teams could not find the back of the net
through the end of regulation and two ten minute overtime periods.
Abbey goalkeeper Bryan Alenky made three saves, while Erskine
goalkeeper Ronnie Murray had to make eight saves.
