Belmont Abbey freshman forward Rebecca Mateo has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women's soccer Player of the Week during week number nine in the 2008 season.

The Cotati, California product scored the game winning goal in the 6-0 win over Coker, and logged the game-winning assist on Nicole Voets's golden goal in the 1-0 overtime win over Mount Olive. With that win the Abbey extended its unbeaten streak against Conference Carolinas opponents to 35 and its home winning streak to 14 en route to its fourth-consecutive shutout.
