The 19th-ranked Belmont Abbey women's soccer team fell 3-0 at
eighth-ranked Columbus State this evening at Walden Complex in the
Peach Belt vs. Conference Carolinas Classic. Columbus State
improves to 11-3, while the Abbey, which had its 23-match unbeaten
streak snapped, falls to 8-1-3. It was the Crusaders first loss
since September 18, 2007, a 1-0 loss at Carson-Newman.
Columbus State scored once in the first half and two more in the
second to account for all of the scoring. The Cougars struck first
in the 22nd minute on a Gina Goforth goal. In the second half,
Stephanie Parrish scored twice, first at the 59:32 mark and again
at the 62:35 mark.
The Cougars recorded 11 shots while the Abbey finished with two.
Goalkeeper Anna Wells made six saves.
