Belmont Abbey shot 52 percent from the field as four Crusaders
finished in double figures, led by junior guard Jonathan Jackson's
16, as the Abbey improved its record to 11-8 overall and 9-3 in
Conference Carolinas with a 66-60 win at Erskine this evening. The
Crusaders have won three-straight and seven of their last nine.
Leading 62-60 with 27 seconds left, the Crusaders sank
four-straight free throws, two by Deonte Murphy with 27 seconds
left and two by Chad Patus with 20 seconds showing to preserve the
win.
The Abbey converted 24 field goals on 43 attempts as Jackson led
the way with 16 points on five of ten shooting from the field,
while pulling down two rebounds and collecting three steals in all
40 minutes. Freshman guard Richard Barbee added 15 points on six of
nine shooting from the field. Ric Marczenko added ten points and
seven rebounds, while Patus narrowly missed a double double with
ten points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Crusaders are back in action Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
when they go on the road to face Coker.
