Belmont Abbey senior forward Ric Marczenko led the Crusaders
with a double double, posting 21 points and 10 rebounds as the
Abbey men's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a
65-56 win over North Greenville this afternoon at the 19,077 seat
Charlotte Bobcats Arena. The win improves the Abbey's record to
9-8 in its final non-conference game of the year. The contest was
played immediately prior to the Charlotte Bobcats-Dallas Mavericks
contest.
The Abbey shot 37.9 percent (25-66) from the field as Marczenko
led the way with 21 points on 9-16 shooting from the floor and a
3-4 effort from the free throw line. He also pulled down 10
rebounds and collected a steal in 35 minutes. Freshman guard
Richard Barbee added 13 points on 4-15 shooting from the field and
a 4-6 output from the free throw line. Sophomore forward Chad Patus
added 11 points and eight rebounds, and junior point guard Deonte
Murphy totaled a career-high nine assists, to go along with five
rebounds, four offensive, and a pair of steals in 29 minutes.
North Greenville was led by Austin Randel's 31 points, 20 of
which came in the first half. He added seven rebounds and a pair of
steals. He was the only North Greenville player to reach double
figures.
The Abbey is back in action Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. when
it hosts Limestone.
