Women's Basketball Outlasts Converse, 67-63

Belmont Abbey sophomore guard Courtney Naquin and freshman forward Shayla Jackson set career-highs with 20 and 18 points, respectively, as the Crusaders women's basketball team defeated Converse 67-63 this evening. The Abbey improves to 10-4 overall and 7-2 in Conference Carolinas. The Crusaders have now won five of its last seven contests.

The Crusaders shot 48.1 percent (26-54) from the field as Naquin converted seven of her 15 field goal attempts, including a 3-5 effort from three-point range and a 3-6 output from the free throw line. She also pulled down two rebounds and recorded four assists and two steals in 30 minutes.

Jackson was nearly perfect from the floor, sinking nine of ten shots while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds in 31 minutes. Reigning conference Player of the Week Marie Marquez added 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals in 33 minutes. Junior forward Emma Camp led all players with five assists.

The Abbey is back in action Saturday night at 5:30 when it hosts Pfeiffer.
