Freshman guard Richard Barbee led five Crusaders in double
figures with 19 points as the Belmont Abbey men's basketball team
extended its winning streak to four games with a 90-60 win at
Anderson this evening. The Crusaders, which lead the Conference
Carolinas standings, improve to 8-6 overall and 7-1 in Conference
Carolinas.
The Abbey, which never trailed and led by as many as 35 points,
were led by Barbee's 19 points on 8-10 shooting from the field. He
sank his only three-point attempt and converted two of four free
throws, while dishing out four assists and collecting four steals
in just 24 minutes. Junior guard Jonathan Jackson added 14 points
and four assists, while Karolis Bauza and Ric Marczenko both
finished with ten points. Marczenko tied for the team lead with
seven rebounds, matching the output of sophomore guard Patrick
Kuhlman, who set a career-high in rebounds and assists with seven.
Deonte Murphy added four assists and a pair of steals.
The Crusaders shot 46.9 percent (30-64) from the floor and sank
24 of their 30 free throw attempts (80 percent) as six different
players were perfect from the free throw line.
Belmont Abbey is off until Saturday when it hosts Pfeiffer at
7:30 p.m.
