Belmont Abbey midfielders Christian Ocampo and Brian Souza
scored the first two goals of the match as the Crusaders earned its
fourth win in their last five matches as the Abbey earned a 2-1 win
at Pfeiffer this afternoon. The Abbey, winners of two straight,
improve to 8-4-0 overall and 3-1-0 in Conference Carolinas, while
the Falcons fall to 6-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play.
Despite being outshot 10-5 in the match, the Crusaders posted
the first two goals as Ocampo put the Abbey ahead 1-0 at the 21:20
mark, firing home his second goal of the year with an assist from
Luis Arrietta.
Nine minutes later, at exactly 30:00, Souza scored his second
goal of the season, with an assist from Paul Goding, for what
turned out to be the game-winning goal. For the second year in a
row, Souza scored the game-winner against the Falcons, as he scored
the golden goal against Pfeiffer last season in an overtime
thriller at Alumni Field.
Pfeiffer would cut the lead in half at the 77:30 mark on a Davi
Lorezno tally, but the Crusaders defense would make the lead stand
up as the Crusaders earned the win.
The Abbey registered five corner kicks to just none for
Pfeiffer. Abbey goalkeeper Bryan Alenky made five saves.
