Volleyball Falls To Lees-McRae, 3-0

The Belmont Abbey volleyball team dropped its 2007 Conference Carolinas home opener to Lees-McRae 3-0 this evening at the Wheeler Center. Game scores were 26-30, 20-30 and 20-30. The Abbey falls to 1-12 overall and 0-3 in Conference Carolinas, while the Bobcats even their record to 7-7 and remain unbeaten in conference play with a 3-0 mark.

Offensively, the Abbey was led by Leeanne Cassandra, who finished with six kills to go along with a dig and a block solo. Jessica Bennett added five kills and Sydney Steffen added four. Setter Allison Smith handed out 14 assists to go along with six digs and four service aces.

Defensively, the Crusaders recorded 53 digs as libero Monica Halligan led the way with 16. Taylor Stern added eight, and Steffen and Holly Kimmel both added seven.

Lees-McRae had two players reach double figures in kills, led by Caty Honey's 13. Daviana Metti posted a double double with 12 kills and 17 digs, while libero Dani Usedom logged 13 digs.

The Abbey is back in action Tuesday night at 7:00 when it hosts Anderson University at the Wheeler Center.
