The Belmont Abbey volleyball team dropped a tough 3-2 decision to the homestanding Lenoir-Rhyne Bears this morning in its third match of the L-R/Moretz Sports Volleyball Invitational. Game scores were 31-29, 30-25, 21-30, 20-30 and 11-15.

Offensively, the Crusaders were led by junior Emily Becher, who posted a team-high 13 kills, while Sydney Steffen added 11. Freshmen Emily Frohnapfel and Jennifer Angelich both added seven apiece, with Frohnapfel adding five blocks and Angelich posting a pair. Freshman Leanne Cassandra added five. Allison Smith handed out 32 assists and Holly Kimmel added 13.

Defensively, Monica Halligan posted 23 digs and Carrie Markham added ten.

The Crusaders are back in action at 3:00 p.m. when they take on Fayetteville State.
