The Belmont Abbey volleyball team closed out the 2007 regular
season with a thrilling 3-1 win over the visiting Pfeiffer Falcons
this evening at the Wheeler Center. Game scores were 30-26, 21-30,
30-21 and 30-27. The Crusaders improve to 9-23 overall and 7-13 in
Conference Carolinas, while the Falcons slip to 19-12 overall and
12-8 in Conference Carolinas.
The Abbey offense was led by freshmen Jessica Bennett and Emily
Frohnapfel, who both finished with 11 kills. Leanne Cassandra and
Sydney Steffen both added eight. Setter Allison Smith handed out 39
assists and posted eight service aces, with seven of those coming
in the first game.
Senior Monica Halligan led all players with 33 digs, while Smith
registered 11 and Steffen added ten. Cassandra posted three block
solos.
The Falcons were led by Brittany Dickens's 14 kills, while
Lauren Spiotta added 12. Victoria Parish and Petra Ljubicic both
finished with 10. Setter Morgan Liebert finished with 49 assists
and nine digs. Libero Brittany Poole led the Falcons with 14 digs,
while Nicole Cummings added 12 and Ljubicic added 10.
The Abbey is back in action Monday night when it will host a
first-round Conference Carolinas Tournament match, which will take
place at 6:30 against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
