The fifth-seeded Belmont Abbey men's soccer team was eliminated
from the 2007 Conference Carolinas Tournament with a 3-1 loss to
the top-ranked Lees-McRae Bobcats this evening in the semifinal
round. The Bobcats, ranked second in the country, improve their
record to 18-1-1, while the Abbey ends its season with a record of
13-9-1.
The Bobcats scored three unanswered goals, starting with a Matt
Lacey tally at the 15:48 mark for the only goal of the first half.
The lead grew to 2-0 at the 47:04 mark as Lee Squires found the
back of the net off of a corner kick, and the third goal came in
the 80th minute as Dale Parker scored off of a corner kick.
Belmont Abbey would rally, as it would cut the lead to 3-1 at
the 79:59 mark as Jesse Pitts scored on an unassisted tally with a
28 yard free kick blast for his fourth goal of the season.
Bryan Alenky made five saves in the net for the Abbey in 75
minutes, before giving way to senior Seth Lowther, who made two
saves.
