BELMONT, NC - The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals after allowing a Lees-McRae goal in the 24th minute as the Crusaders extended its winning streak to four with a 3-1 win this afternoon. The Abbey improves to 12-4-2 overall and finishes its CVAC season with a 7-1-2 mark, while the Bobcats fall to 7-6-3 overall and 2-5-2 in the CVAC.

After Diego Cordiero assisted Berin Beracic for the first goal of the match at the 23:36 mark, the Crusaders tied the match exactly 13 minutes later as junior forward Luis Arrieta buried his CVAC leading 17th goal of the year, a shot from the top of the box.

The score remained tied at one at the half until senior midfielder Nick Wyatt gave the Abbey the lead for good at the 50:08 mark. Arrieta got behind the Bobcat defense and was pulled down from behind in the box and was awarded a penalty kick, which Wyatt buried for his third goal of the year. All three of Wyatt's tallies this year have been penalty kicks.

Arrieta added the finishing touches on the scoring with exactly 20 minutes left, as he got free down the left side, sidestepped one defender and ripped a shot past goalkeeper Sean Paradise for his 18th goal of the year.

The Abbey outshot the Bobcats 12-6 as Arrieta finished with six. Lees-McRae was carded six times, including two red cards.

The Crusaders are back in action Monday when it closes out the regular season with a home match against North Greenville. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
