BELMONT, NC - The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team outshot
Coker College 37-0, and freshman forward Erin Thibodeau gave the
Crusaders the only goal it would need as it extended its unbeaten
streak to nine and its winning streak to seven with a 1-0 win this
afternoon. The Crusaders, which have shutout four of its last five
opponents, improves to 12-3-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the CVAC, while
the Cobras fall to 3-11-0 overall and 1-8-0 in the CVAC.
After a scoreless first half in which the Crusaders outshot
Coker 18-0, Thibodeau gave the Abbey the only goal it would need in
the 64th minute. Junior midfielder Stephanie Leotii fired a shot
from 18 yards out that was deflected by Coker goalkeeper Krista
Coleman to the center of the box. Thibodeau beat her mark, and
fired a left-footed shot into the center of the box for her fifth
goal of the year. Leotii picked up her fourth assist of the
year.
The Abbey dominated the final stats, as it held a 15-0 advantage
in corner kicks to go along with the 37 shots. The match was played
cleanly, with Coker only whistled for five fouls and the Abbey
three. Coleman made 17 saves on the afternoon, while Abbey senior
goalkeeper Laisha Lentz, who was honored prior to the match on
senior day, and Anna Donaldson did not face a shot.
The Abbey is back in action Thursday when it will host
Lees-McRae at 2:00 p.m.
