ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Max Newton shot three-under par 141 over 36 holes Monday to lead Belmont Abbey in its men's golf season opener, the Jay Jennison Cup, hosted by Flagler at the World Golf Village's Slammer and Squire course.

Newton turned in a morning round of 69 before playing the afternoon round even. He is tied for 18th entering Tuesday's final round.
