WILSON, N.C. -- Megan Towery went 4-for-9 with four runs batted in in and
Casey Laing added four hits, leading Belmont Abbey to a split of a Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader at Barton Friday afternoon. The Crusaders dropped the opener 7-6 in eight innings before capturing the nightcap 3-1.
With the results, The Abbey stands at 21-19 overall and 13-9 in league play, while the Bulldogs sit at 20-24, 9-15.
THE OPENER
- Towery had three hits in five at-bats, with all three hits producing runs. She had an RBI double in the third, plated two with a single in the fifth and put the Crusaders ahead in extra innings.
- Laing went two-for-two with two walks, while Allie Mayer also had a pair of hits.
- Lilly Hartsell, the Crusaders' third pitcher of the game, took the loss to fall to 1-4. She gave up two runs (one earned) in 1.2 innings of relief.
THE NIGHTCAP
- Belmont Abbey rallied from a 1-0 deficit with a run in the fourth and two in the fifth.
- They tied the game on a double steal, then added two unearned runs in the fifth.
- Laing and Lily Garnett-Brown each had two of The Abbey's eight hits.Towery, Ella Crowe, Kennedy Teasley and North Cutler added the other four.
- Erin Gill (7-3) scattered eight hits and two walks in the complete-game effort.
