MONROE, N.C. — Max Newton led the way for the Belmont Abbey men's golf team as the Crusaders opened play at the Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate Monday at Rolling Hills Country Club.
Newton led the Crusaders with an opening-round 3-under par 69 to lead the Abbey contigent as golfers were able to complete just 27 holes due to two separate weather delays. Based on results available, the sophomore sits in a tie fifth place individually with the two Crusader teams sitting in a tie for 9th and in 17th place, respectively.
Kellen Adickes shot 75 for the A team while all four countable scores for the B team shot 77.
After teams completed nine holes of the second round, play was suspended for the day.
Tournament host Wingate leads the field with the Bulldogs' Alfie Storer leading the individual standings.
