Joseph Woods Weisman became the first Belmont Abbey bowler in program history to earn a berth in the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championship Friday, finishing third at the sectional championship at the Smyrna Bowling Center. The Minneapolis native claimed one of five slots at the sectional and will join 19 other bowlers from around the country in Green Bay, Wis. April 13-18 to compete for the national title.
Woods Weisman totaled 1,354 pins (a 225.7 average) over six games to stand 17 pins over the cut line. He enter the final game tied for 17th place, but scored a career-high 278, his fourth over 200 on the day.
Four other Crusaders finished in the top 40 of the 172-man field.
Action continues Saturday and Sunday with the Intercollegiate Team Sectional Championship. The top four teams will also advance to Green Bay for the team championship.
