GREENVILLE, S.C. — Belmont Abbey wrestler
Elijah Carrington was named the Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestling Freshman of the Month by the league office Friday.
Carrington went 5-0 in January for Belmont Abbey, taking one win each by pin, major decision and technical fall as the starter in the 133-pound weight class.
All five wins came in Conference Carolinas action as he started with a 10-2 win over Mount Olive's Brock Christian and a 1:00 pin over Coker's Weston Bare. He followed that with a 22-6 technical fall win over Josiah Canales Maldonado of Ferrum.
What might have been his biggest win of the month, he defeated sixth-ranked Logan Robinson of UNC Pembroke 15-12 before closing the month with a 13-9 win over Newberry's Caiden Pelc.
Carrington was a key part of the Crusaders earning the No. 2 seed from the East Division and a spot in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The tournament will be held Sunday, February 15 at 11 a.m. on the campus of UNC Pembroke.
