SALISBURY, N.C. -- Megan Towery homered in both games -- extending her hitting streak to all 14 games this season but Belmont Abbey dropped the doubleheader at Catawba Wednesday afternoon. The Crusaders lost the first game 9-1 in six innings, before falling in the nightcap 5-4.
With the results, The Abbey falls to 5-9 overall while the Indians improved to 10.7
THE OPENER
- Belmont Abbey fell behind 2-0 after three before Towery hit a two-out blast to left center in the fourth.
- Jordan Stefani and Casey Laing had the team's other two hits, singles in the fifth and sixth, respectively.
- Catawba scored five runs in the sixth to end the game early.
- Erin GIll (1-2) took the loss alloswing five runs over 5.0 innings pitched. She struck out two.Â
THE NIGHTCAP
- Three of Belmont Abby's four hits were home runs. Towery and Nora Cutler went back-to-back in the fourth inning to cut Catawba's lead to 3-2, Alayna Patrick hit a two-run blast in the fifth for a 4-3 lead.
- Casey Laing led off the 6th with an infield single for the other hit.Â
- Sienna Garcia took the loss to fall to 3-4 after she allowed a two-run single with two outs in the sixth to surrender the lead.She threw a complete game, allowing five hits and two walks against six strikeouts
