BELMONT, N.C. -- Sage Farmer totaled four hits, scoring four runs and scoring twice, helping Belmont Abbey to a split of a Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader Wednesday at Crusader Field. The Valkyries took the first game 6-2 before the Crusaders came back to take the second 12-4 in five innings.
Belmont Abbey closes the regular season at 21-25 overall and 8-16 in league play.
THE OPENER
- Payton Colbert had two hits and Casey Laing and Lily Garnett-Brown each drove in runs.
- The Crusaders opened the scoring in the bottom of the first and later tied the game at 2 in the third. But the Valkyries used a two-run homer in the fourth and two unearned runs in the seventh for the victory.
- McKenna Meadors (5-6) took the loss, lasting four innings before giving way to Torey Cagno.
THE NIGHTCAP
- Farmer tallied three hits, scoring three times and driving in a pair.
- Garnett-Brown and Abby Peisker had two hits each, helping the Crusaders to 11 as a team.
- Laing had a bases-clearing double in the third that made the score 8-1.
- Lilly Hartsell improved to 11-10, allowing just four runs (one earned) in 4.0 innings pitched. Erin Gill threw the final inning, ending the game with a looking strikeout.
