SUMTER, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey women's tennis team saw its season come to a close as the No. 4 seed Crusaders faced No. 1 seed in the semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
The Crusaders battled closely with the Bobcats before Lees-McRae earned the 4-2 win over the Crusaders.
The Bobcats earned two wins in doubles play to earn the point while
Hanley Riner and
Alexis Burkhalter both earned points in singles play with wins in the No. 3 and No. 5 matches, respectively.
Burkhalter earned a three-set win via tiebreaker and Riner won in straight sets. Lees-Mcrae advances to face No. 2 seed Erskine in the Conference Championship match on Sunday.
Belmont Abbey closes its season with a 20-11 overall record.
