PEMBROKE, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey wrestling team returned to the mat for the final time in the regular season as the Crusaders took on sixth-ranked NC Pembroke Friday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.
The Crusaders earned wins in three of the first five bouts of the evening but the Braves closed out the match with five straight wins for a 31-11 victory.
Elijah Boyd (133 pounds) and
Maxwell Kiel (157) both won via major decision in their respective bouts while
John Carayiannis (141) earned a 10-7 victory over UNC Pembroke's Joshua Feliz.
Belmont Abbey closes the regular season with a 7-6 overall record and 5-5 in Confernece Carolinas competition. UNC Pembroke is 13-5 overall, 8-1 in the conference.
