DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey wrestling team earned victories in four bouts against Division I opponent Davidson Thursday evening at John M. Belk Arena as the Crusaders returned to action.
Despite the four wins, it was the Wildcats who came away with the 26-16 victory.
Belmont Abbey is now 2-1 on the season while Davidson is 1-0 as it marked the opening dual match of the season for the Wildcats.
The Abbey took an early 6-3 lead after
Elijah Boyd earned a win by forfeit in the 133-pound weight class.
Luke Kunath added to the lead with a win via 5-4 decision against Josh Viarengo at 141.
The Wildcats took the next three bouts but
Kyler Pickard and
Caleb Moore earned wins for the Crusaders. Pickard won by major decision over Bodie Morgan and Moore won an 11-4 decision over Savoy New.
The match was closed out by a sudden victory for Davidson in the heavyweight bout.
Belmont Abbey is now 2-1 on the season while Davidson is 1-0 as it marked the opening dual match of the season for the Wildcats.
