COLUMBUS, GA. – The Belmont Abbey men's tennis team saw its 2022-23 season come to a close as the No. 8 seed Crusaders faced off against top-seeded Columbus State in the opening round of the NCAA Southeast Regional Friday afternoon at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
The Crusaders dropped a 4-0 decision to the Cougars as the two teams faced off for the second straight year in postseason play.
Chase Martin and
Nicholas Cary were leading in No. 1 doubles before the Cougars earned wins in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Following that, Columbus State clinched the match with wins in No. 2, No. 4 and No. 1 singles, respectively, to close out the match.
Charlie Fremaux did take a set over Armin Trklja in No. 4 singles before play was stopped.
Belmont Abbey closes the season with a 21-20 overall record. Columbus State is 16-4 and will advance to play the winner of Augusta-North Georgia on Saturday.
