MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey softball team continued its extended road trip with a doubleheader at Mount Olive Friday afternoon at Nancy Chapman Field in the Conference Carolinas opener for both teams.
The Crusaders came away with a split with the Trojans, falling 5-2 in Game 1 before closing the day with an 8-4 victory. The Abbey finished the day with seven extra-base hits over the span of the two games, including a pair of home runs from
Mackenzie Allison in the second game.
Belmont Abbey is now 6-12 overall, 1-1 in the conference. Mount Olive is 12-10 overall with an identical 1-1 league record.
GAME 1
- The Trojans got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.
- Trinity Wall got the first hit of the day for The Abbey with a leadoff single in the second inning.
- Mount Olive extended the lead in the third inning with a three-run home run.
- Sydney Pon got the Crusaders on the board with a solo home run in the sixth inning.
- Jordyn Stefani had two extra-base hits: a double in the fifth inning and a solo home run in the seventh.
- Alannah Browne struck out three batters over six innings in the opener.
GAME 2
- Three Crusaders finished with multiple hits in the nightcap: Hallie Mele, Adison Yoder and Mackenzie Allison.
- Yoder got the Crusaders on the board with an RBI single in the top of the first inning. She also pitched five-plus innings and struck out a pair of batters.
- The Abbey extended the lead when Pon scored off a Trojan fielding error.
- Allison hit the first of her two home runs in the fourth inning and had another one in the sixth to extend The Abbey led to 4-2.
- The Crusaders scored two more runs in the frame on an RBI triple from Wall and an RBI double from Sprinkle.
- After the Trojans got within 6-3, Browne entered the game and retired the next three Mount Olive batters.
- Bailey Presley gave The Abbey a pair of insurances runs with a two-out, two-run double in the seventh to make it 8-3.
- The Trojans got a run in the bottom of the inning before Browne closed the game out and got her first save of the season.

- The Crusaders continue their road trip with a doubleheader at UNC Pembroke Saturday. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
- Saturday's doubleheader will conclude a run of 14 consecutive road games.
