MARS HILL, N.C. – Mackenzie Allison finished with four hits, including a home run, but Belmont Abbey dropped both games of a doubleheader Wednesday at Mars Hill, 5-1 and 7-3.
The games were made up after being postponed on Saturday due to inclement weather.
With the result, the Crusaders are now 3-7 while the Lions are 8-9.
GAME 1
- Allison and Hallie Mele accounted for all five of the Crusaders' hits in the opener.
- Mele finished with a pair of hits, including a leadoff double to open the contest.
- After falling behind 5-0 after three innings, Allison hit a two-out solo home run to left field to put the Crusaders on the board.
- Adison Yoder pitched the full game for The Abbey, finishing with a pair of strikeouts and allowing nine hits. She is now 2-2 on the season.
GAME 2
- The Crusaders struck first in the second game thanks to an RBI single from Mackenzie Sprinkle, who finished 2 for 4 in the game.
- The Lions tied the game in the bottom of the third before pulling away with a six-run fourth inning.
- Alannah Browne capped off the scoring for The Abbey with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning. The homer scored Sprinkle, who reached on an error.
- Mele, Allison, Bailey Presley and Marlie Stillwell all recorded hits in the second game.
- Browne took the loss in Game 2 after pitching three innings in the contest. Adeline Cox got the start and Yoder entered the game in relief for the final 2.1 innings.
UP NEXT
The Crusaders continue their stretch of road games with a doubleheader at Fayetteville State at 2 p.m. March 8.
Belmont Abbey's next home game will be Tuesday, March 21 with a Conference Carolinas doubleheader against Emmanuel scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Crusader Field.
