COLUMBUS, GA. – The Belmont Abbey men's tennis team made its return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 21 years as the No. 8 seeded Crusaders faced off against top-seeded Columbus State in the Southeast Regional Monday at the Walden Tennis Complex. The season came to an end for the Crusaders as Columbus State came away with a 4-0 victory to advance to the second round of the regional. The Cougars will face the winner of Queens and Lander who were scheduled to face off Monday afternoon.
Columbus State came away with wins in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and won in Nos. 1, 3 and 4 to clinch the match. In No. 2 singles,
Zachary Blythe had taken the lead in his match 6-2, 3-2 before it was stopped after the Cougars had clinched the winning point.
Belmont Abbey concludes the season at 22-17. Columbus State is now 19-2.
