Second-Quarter Surge Lifts Crusaders to Semifinal Victory

TIGERVILLE, S.C. -- Belmont Abbey rallied from an early 2-1 deficit with 12 unanswered goals in a span of 24:04, leading the second-seeded Crusaders to a 17-5 victory over No. 3 Barton Thursday in the semifinals of the 2022 Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship. The Abbey advances to a Saturday matchup against top-seeded Mount Olive.

Mackenzie Kaderabek and Emma Pherson each tallied four goals to lead BAC (10-8).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Barton opened the scoring just 42 seconds in the contest, then broke a 1-1 tie at the 8:45 mark.
  • Kaderabek answered just 1:13 later to even the game at 2-2, then Pherson gave The Abbey the lead for good just 25 seconds before the end of the first period.
  • Riley D'Andrea and Olivia Carlino tallied three goals each, while Christina Fabrizio, Kacey Kubarewicz and Grace Ridge rounded out the scoring.
  • Michelle Guppy started in goal and made seven saves to earn the victory. She allowed just two goals.
  • Becca Creekmore played the second half, making five saves against three goals against.
  • Fabrizio, Guppy and Elizabeth Hommel picked up three ground balls each, while Pherson took five draw controls.
