TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey softball team continued its road trip with a Conference Carolinas doubleheader against North Greenville Saturday at Jan McDonald Field.
The Crusaders were locked in a pair of close games but fell 2-0 in Game 1 and 9-8 in Game 2. It was the second straight day that The Abbey had played an extra-innings game.
Belmont Abbey is now 18-9 overall and 5-5 in the conference. North Greenville is 15-21 overall and 7-5 in the league.
GAME 1
- Hallie Mele and Bailey Presley started the game off with consecutive singles.
- Abby Craver allowed just two runs on five hits in six innings of work.
- North Greenville scored one run each in the third and fourth inning to build a 2-0 lead.
- The Crusaders finished with seven hits in Game 1, including two each from Mele, Presley and Emily Morgan.
- Cameron Cooper had the other hit during the opener for The Abbey.
GAME 2
- After a scoreless first two innings, Belmont Abbey broke through with a four-run third inning starting with a two-run single from Payton Whitley.
- Sydney Pon helped extend The Abbey lead with another RBI single the very next at bat.
- Morgan added another RBI single two batters later to make it 4-0.
- The Crusaders made it 5-0 in the fourth inning with an RBI double by Presley.
- With the game tied at 5-5 entering the seventh inning, Emma Frye gave Belmont Abbey the lead again with a two-run double to make it 7-5.
- Presley added another RBI single in the eighth inning to give The Abbey an 8-7 lead.
- Belmont Abbey finished with 15 hits in the second game, including three each from Presley, Pon, and Morgan.
