Fast Start Lifts Abbey To Win over North Greenville

BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's lacrosse team used an early lead to its advantage as the Crusaders defeated North Greenville 23-8 in a Conference Carolinas game Tuesday at Alumni Field.
 
Riley D'Andrea led the Crusaders with nine points (seven goals, two assists) while Jenn Smith scored five goals for the second straight game.
 
Belmont Abbey moved to 9-6 overall and 7-1 in the conference. North Greenville is now 5-9 and 3-3 in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Belmont Abbey jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Mackenzie Kaderabek in the first minute of the contest. She and teammate Christian Fabrizio scored two goals each in the game.
  • After North Greenville pulled even at 1-1, The Abbey built some separation with five straight goals including two each from D'Andrea and Smith.
  • Kathryn Monk had the other goal during that stretch for the Crusaders, who led 8-2 after the first quarter.
  • Belmont Abbey nearly doubled its lead heading into halftime by building a 15-4 advantage going in to the break.
  • Olivia Carlino scored two of her three goals in the third quarter, including one with a man-up with 8:05 left in the third quarter.
  • Emma Pherson, Sophia Browning and Kate Roberts also scored in the win.
  • Kaderabek led Belmont Abbey with five assists followed by Roberts with three and Monk with two.
  • The Abbey outshot North Greenville 36-18 in the victory.
  • Belmont Abbey collected 19 ground balls in the win.
  • Michelle Guppy finished with six saves on the night to lead Belmont Abbey.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders are off for Easter break and are scheduled to host Chowan at 3 p.m. on April 23 at Alumni Field.
  • It is the final game of the regular season for Belmont Abbey.
