BELMONT, N.C. -
Hallie Mele scored four runs as the Belmont Abbey Softball team swept Erskine this afternoon, with scores of 3-1 and 10-2. The Abbey now stands at 16-7 on the season, with a 3-3 Conference Carolinas record. Erskine dips to 6-19 overall, with a 2-6 conference mark.
THE OPENER
- The Flying Fleet scored in the first inning. However, a double by Mele brought home Isabella Kretschmer to tie the game, and a single by Sydney Pon scored Mele to put The Abbey in front 2-1
- Payton Whitley hit a homerun in the sixth to cap off the 3-1 victory
- Abby Craver threw a complete game and tossed five strikeouts, while walking just one
THE NIGHTCAP
- Erskine again scored in the first, and the Crusaders responded in the bottom of the inning. Mele scored on a single by Bailey Presley, and Emma Frye scored later in the inning to give Belmont Abbey the lead for good
- Mele homered in the second with Afton Jessee on base, giving the Crusaders a 4-1 lead
- In the third, Mackenzie Sprinkle made it 6-1 in the third, with a 2-RBI single
- In the fifth, Presley hit a single that scored Whitley and Mele, and BAC wrapped up the 10-2 victory
- Alannah Browne pitched all five inning, striking out six and walking just one
- On the day, Mele went 3-for-6 with four runs and three RBIs
- Presley went 4-for-6 with a run and three RBIs
