Abbey Takes Lander Into Overtime

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Riley D'Andrea scored five goals, but the Belmont Abbey Women's Lacrosse team lost 15-14 at Lander this evening.  The Crusaders are now 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Olivia Carlino got the scoring started for Belmont Abbey, off a pass from Kate Roberts
  • Jenn Smith scored a free position goal and the Crusaders led 4-3 at the end of the first period
  • The second quarter was all Abbey.  D'Andrea scored three free position goals, and Carlino added another.  The defense was also excellent, giving up just three shots in the period, and no goals after the opening minute.  BAC held a 9-4 lead at halftime
  • In the third the Crusaders were again very strong.  Christina Fabrizio opened the quarter with a man-up goal.  Less than a minute later, D'Andrea added a free position goal
  • Carlino and Emma Pherson each scored in the final minute of the period, and The Abbey held a 14-5 leading heading into the fourth quarter
  • The Bearcats managed to score nine goals in the fourth to force overtime, and scored the game-winner in OT for the 15-14 victory
  • On the day, D'Andrea led the Crusaders with five goals and an assist
  • Becca Creekmore made nine saves in goal and picked up four ground balls
UP NEXT

Belmont Abbey will face Wingate in its home opener on Saturday, February 19 at 12 noon.
