BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey pounded out 30 hits and scored 24 runs and two pitchers combined for no-hitter in the second game, as the Crusaders swept a doubleheader 14-4 and 10-0 from Elizabeth City State Saturday afternoon. Both contests were called after five innings.
The Abbey has won all four games this season, while the action Saturday was the Vikings' first of the year.
THE OPENER
- Five players had multiple hits, led by Emma Frye and Hallie Mele with three each. As a team, the Crusaders totaled 15, four for extra bases.
- Sydney Pon drove in four runs, while Mackenzie Sprinkle tallied three RBIs.
- The Crusaders tallied six runs in the first, then added two in the second. A six-run fourth broke the game open.
- Sadie Lee earned the win in her first appearance of the season. She scattered five hits, allowing three runs (two earned). She struck out one over 3.0-plus innings.
THE NIGHTCAP
- Payton Whitley went three-for-three with four RBIs. Her three-run homer highlighted a four-run first.
- Craver (2-0) scored three runs, hitting a solo homer in the first. In the pitching circle, she retired the first 11 batters she faced, allowing runners to reach on an error and walk. She struck out six.
- Abigail Mravlja threw a perfect fifth to cap the no-hitter.
- Belmont Abbey pounded out 15 more hits.
