BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey won four individual matches matches but that not enough as Newberry earned a 24-15 victory over the Crusaders in Conference Carolinas wrestling action Thursday night.

After Newberry started the match with a win at the 171 weight class, Amir Joseph cut the team score to 4-3 with a 5-0 victory at 184. Elijah Boyd earned a 6-3 win at 125 before John Carayiannis took just 1:18 to get a pin in the 141 bout. Belmont Abbey's Maxwell Kiel also picked up a 13-8 victory at 157.

Belmont Abbey falls to 1-1 on the season, 0-1 in league play. Newberry is now 1-0, 1-0 in after its first dual match of the season.
