BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey wrestling team extended its unbeaten South Atlantic Conference Carolinas record of the season thanks to a 37-7 victory over Emmanuel Saturday at the Wheeler Center. It was the first match of the 2022 calendar year for the Crusaders.
The Crusaders won 11 of the 13 bouts held Saturday. One of those was from senior
Aaron Zebrauskas, who recorded a pin in his first match in four years as a collegiate wrestler. Ben Fielding and
John Carayiannis helped the Crusaders take the lead with 15-0 and 18-3 victories coming via technical fall.
Tyler Pepe (4-0) and
Mitch Dean (10-5) both won their bouts via decision while
Connor Weeks and
Logan Branham both won after pinning their respective opponents.
Justin Wright closed out the match thanks to a victory by 4-1 decision.
Belmont Abbey moves to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas standings. Emmanuel is now 3-5 and 0-4, respectively.
