WINSTON SALEM, N.C. -- Freshman Sam Wallick made his first Conference Carolinas Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship one to remember, winning the league title in the pole vault with a mark of 4.17m (13'-8.25"). With his title, Wallick earns first-team all-conference honors.
Wallick started jumping at 3.82m, clearing that on his second try, then made 3.97m and 4.07m without a miss. Wallick and Emmanuel's Juan Soto were the only competitors to clear the winning mark and both failed to advance at 4.27m. Wallick earned the title because he hit 4.17 on his second try, while his opponent took three attempts.
At the conclusion of meet, league coaches voted Wallick Freshman of the Year.
As a team, Belmont Abbey placed seventh with 22 points, just two behind Barton for sixth. Mount Olive was the champion with 192 points.
